Week 1

Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN)

  1. His full name was Chief Abdul-Ganiyu Oyesola Fawehinmi, but most people called him Gani.
  2. He was a lawyer and a human rights activist, famous for fighting for the rights of ordinary Nigerians.
  3. He was born on April 22nd, 1938.
  4. He was known as Senior Advocate of the Masses, though he had an SAN title, people loved him for fighting human rights.
  5. He was often arrested for speaking out against injustice.
  6. He started a free legal aid service for those who couldn’t afford a lawyer.
  7. He published the Nigerian Law Weekly Reports.
  8. He ran for president unsuccessfully in 2003.
  9. He was awarded the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 2001.
  10. He died on the 5th September, 2009, but he is still remembered as one of Nigeria’s greatest fighter for justice.

Week 2

Folorunsho Alakija

  1. Her full name is Folorunsho Alakija.
  2. She was born on July 15th, 1951, in Lagos, Nigeria.
  3. She began working hard at a young age and loved learning new things.
  4. She first became famous as a talented fashion designer.
  5. She later became a very successful businesswoman in oil and other industries.
  6. She is the one of the richest women in Africa.
  7. She gives back to her community and helps children go to school.
  8. She loves her family and believes in taking care of loved ones.
  9. Many people look up to her because of her hard work and achievements.
  10. People sometimes call her “Mama Alakija” because of her kindness and generosity.

Week 3

Nelson Mandela

  1. His full name was Nelson Rolihlala Mandela.
  2. He was born on July 18th, 1918 in Mvezo, South Africa.
  3. As a boy, he loved reading and learning new things.
  4. He worked hard to make sure all people in South Africa were treated equally, no matter the color of their skin.
  5. He spent 27 years in prison because he was standing up for equal rights.
  6. In 1994, he became South Africa’s first Black president.
  7. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for helping bring peace to South Africa.
  8. Mandela enjoyed sports, especially boxing and soccer, and he believed sports could unite people.
  9. He was famous for forgiving people who treated him badly and encouraged peace and friendship.
  10. People often called him “Madiba,” which is a special name from his tribe.

Week 4

Michael Phelps

  1. His full name is Michael Fred Phelps II.
  2. He was born on June 30, 1985, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
  3. He began swimming when he was just 7 years old.
  4. Michael has won 23 Olympic gold medals, more than any other athlete in history.
  5. People call him the “Flying Fish” because he swims so fast.
  6. He is really good at different swimming styles like butterfly, freestyle, and backstroke.
  7. He has broken many world records in swimming.
  8. He trained for hours every day to become the best swimmer in the world.
  9. He encourages kids to follow their dreams and work hard.
  10. He enjoys spending time with his family and often shares his achievements with them.
